The Bearded Man

What’s the right beard for your Face?

You know a beard can add flare to your overall look. But growing one is not without its challenges, for example figuring out the right shape and style to fit your face or maintaining your beard to look as fresh as it did the day you left the barbershop. Beards do have many manly aspects. They accentuate the facial structure and they give men a masculine look. We here at CBJStyles have put together a few examples!!

If you have a Round Face

or jaw line your beard can help to visually lengthen your face and create more of an oval shape. A full beard is the classic expression of manliness. Go with a full beard. Keep your beard relatively short to avoid letting the full beard go from neat and masculine to mountain-man style.

If you have a Square Face,

If you have an Oval Face.

The Pompadour 2014

I love this trend as it shows men moving away from that messy “just rolled out of bed look” and moving towards a more groomed style. These haircuts combine classic barbering with a modern twist. Unlike the traditional pompadour, these haircuts tend to be aggressively short on the sides and back with some disconnection between the sides and the top. Ideally, these haircuts are best worn with a side part and styled with a “formal” men’s styling product such as pomade. That said, they can also be worn down or dry for a more casual look. Another aspect of these cuts I like is that, while aggressive and trendy, because of their groomed styling, the cuts work well in professional work environments and formal occasions.

The Perfect Shave!!!

Remember the 4 basic steps. Prepare – Lather – Shave – Moisturize –

Why Your Face Shape Matters!!!

Have you ever noticed that one man can look great with a goatee and shaved head, while someone else can try the same look with less than favorable results? We always hear that face shapes can help determine the best hat or glasses to wear, and the same is true for facial hair and styling.

imagesShaving tips for Black Men!!!

  • Exfoliating with a gentle scrub removes the top layer of dead cells and allows hairs to grow out more easily.
  • Pre-shave oil will add another layer of protection by moisturizing the skin and getting the hair to stand straighter off the skin.
  • Shave Cream (no Gels). Allow it to sit on the face for a few minutes to completely coat hairs before shaving.
  • Use a sharp razor blade and discard old blades, typically after 4-5 uses.
  • Shave with the grain That is, in the direction your hair grows.
  • Rinse off the shaving cream with cold water. Warm water opens your pores, which makes it easier for the razor to get the hair. Cold water closes your pores and makes it more difficult for bacteria to get inside.
  • Apply After Shave. Follow a shave with an after-shave solution that contains hydrating ingredients like aloe, witch hazel and tea tree extract.

Gearing up for the Fall

Fall Colors

A man who knows how to wear color well can really turn some heads. Men shouldn’t be afraid of color but should embrace it. They should experiment even if it’s just with shirt colors.

Wearing Brightly Colored Pants

Dress it up or Down- try both. Colorful pair of pants looks super fly with a simple white dress shirt, a tie and a sports coat/blazer. You can also dress it down by wearing a simple shirt/sweater and your favorite pair of sneakers. Try it out for yourself! The same rules apply- make sure to keep everything up top as muted and neutral as possible.
